The main ministries in charge of migration affairs:
Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community: Together with its subordinate authorities it is the main body dealing with migration affairs, including immigration (entry, residence); border management and irregular migration; asylum procedure and reception centres; socio-economic integration; return and readmission.
Federal Foreign Office: responsible visa and consular affairs.
Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ): development cooperation with countries of origin and transit of migration.
